AALL & Create: Flourish Plaque

 

Hello

Today I have a piece of wall art to share for my GDT post for AALL & Create.

I made a wall hanging using an MDF plaque from Samantha K.

I love the #269 Flourish bird stamp by Bipasha BK and wanted to create something other than a card with it. Inspired by a Tracy Evans workshop, I made a clay bird and popped it onto some twigs, then surrounded it with moss and flowers. I am really pleased with how it turned out. Here are some close up photos:

Step by Step:

1. Texture paste was applied through the #112 Heapza Hexagons stencil and acrylic paints applied and wiped back with a baby wipe.

2. #374 Reverse Hexagons were stamped with Shady Lane ink and gold wax applied around the edges.

3. The #269 Flourish stamps were stamped and fussy cut.

4. The leaves and bird images were coloured with Inktense watercolour pencils.

5. The leaves were layered for added dimension and liquid pearls added as berries.

6. I gathered some twigs from the garden, glued them in place and surrounded them with florists' moss.

7. I stamped the bird into air drying clay. It was cut out and left to dry. When dry it was painted and waxed. The words 'little birds' which is part of the stamp was also stamped into clay.

8. The flowers were layered and placed with the leaves on the bottom part of the plaque.

9. Glossy accents was applied over the clock face and the robin was perched on the twigs.

Gold Posca pen was used to add shine to the clock surround and white Posca paint was splattered over the entire project.

Path of Positivity: Girl Power

Hello!

Happy Monday!
I hope you are staying safe and well.

Today is the start of a new Path of Positivity challenge.

This month the theme is Anything Goes with the optional twist of Girl Power.

Prizes this month include:

We are a powerful force in the world that needs to be celebrated.

I was lucky to receive an image from All Dressed Up Stamps and I chose 'Time to Read' to represent Girl Power. 

I don't think that anyone would dispute the importance of education in providing the first step towards empowering girls (and boys too!). Education helps girls to get on the career ladder and allowing them to choose and determine their own way in life. Reading, of course, is a major part of education and has many benefits, including developing language skills, imagination, confidence, and empathy. It teaches about the world around us, all the while exercising the brain.

 It has been proven that children who regularly read are higher achievers in school. 

Here is a close up of my card:

I used Copic markers to colour the image. I fussy cut around it and popped it on foam pads onto the background, using some torn washi tape to ground it.

The background is blended Distress Oxides in Scattered Straw, Fossilised Amber, Carved Pumpkin and Fired Brick. It has some Fired Brick stamping ( AALL & Create # Bold Alphas) in the background. Water droplets have bleached out some colour and white paint splatters have been added. The borders have black stamping (AALL & Create #338 Background Noise) and a hand scribbled border frame.

The sentiment is a quote from Dr Seuss' book I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!

* Vera Lane Studio: Live Joyfully

 

Hello!

Today at Vera Lane Studio there is a new digi set release. It is the adorable Live Joyfully set.

I coloured the images in my favourite greens and turquoises using Copic markers and pencils. The background was made by inking Janet's AALL & Create stencil, #97 Starry Night, with Twisted Citron and Broken China Distress Oxide inks. This was spritzed with water and stamped onto white card. I added some text, in Broken China, using Janet's #338 Background Noise stamp set. The edge of the background was inked in black and more Background Noise added, also in black ink.

The little bird comes from the La Dolce Vita set.

Artsystamper: Harvest Time

Happy Monday!

Today sees the start of a new challenge at the Artsystamper Challenge Blog. 

Each challenge runs for two weeks and starts on the first and third Monday of the month. 

The theme for this challenge is Harvest Time.

Today I'm sharing my Harvest Bunny card:

This sweet set, A Bunny's Harvest, comes as black and white stamps for you to colour, or pre-coloured for quick and easy cards.  I chose to colour my own this time. 

I arranged the png image outlines in a group, printed them out and die cut with a circle die. I used Copic markers to colour them and then put the die back over the circle and lightly blended Antique Linen Distress Oxide onto the background. I spritzed with water to get some bleached out spots in the background. 

I matted the sweet image on to paper from the Fall Flowers Stamp and Paper Pack. I die cut a larger scalloped circle from the Begonia Teastain Lace paper and added some colour with Vintage Photo and Fired Brick. 

For the background paper I used the red leaves paper from Autumn Gifts Paper Pack and matted this onto black card. The image was popped on foam tape for some dimension and I added a ribbon which was dyed with Fired Brick Oxide ink to match the papers.

Crafts Galore Encore: Sunny Sunflower

Hello!

October brings another Anything Goes challenge at Crafts Galore Encore.

The sponsor this month is the fabulous Artsystamper who are offering a digital kit to the winner. 

Beverly from Artsystamper kindly gave the DT some digital stamps to work with. I chose to work with Sunny Sunflower and here is the card I made:

I chose the sunflower with a stem, black and white digi so that I could colour it myself. I used Copic markers to add colour, then I fussy cut around the stamp leaving a thin white border. I made a vase from air dry clay and stamped into it for some texture. I painted the vase and added some bronze wax to highlight the texture.

The background was made by braying Distress Oxides onto white car. I used Antique Linen, Scattered Straw, Fossilised Amber and Wild Honey. I stamped Background Grunge from AALL & Create and heat embossed with white WOW Powder.

The flowers were popped on foam dots. The sentiment is from the Sunny Sunflower set.

* Gecko Galz: Happy Haunting

 

Hello!

It's the month of October and here at Gecko Galz we are gearing up to the Tricks and Treats Blog Hop which starts on the 29th October. We will have lots of inspiration, free collage sheets and many chances to win prizes, so please come and join us.

This month the theme for the customer challenge is Happy Haunting. With this in mind I have made two cards. They are a little bit different, in that they are interactive and showcase how to make a simple pop-up card and a slightly more sophisticated peek-a-boo card. This is one of the four challenges in our Facebook group this month, where the winners will win Gecko Galz collage sheets.

Pop Up Card

So the front of the pop-up card is made in any way you like. Here I have fussy cut some images from Gecko Galz collage sheets and arranged them together on Gecko Galz digital paper, raising the figures on foam pads for dimension and grounding them with a torn strip of washi tape. The inside image pops up when you open the card:

In order to make the inside image pop up you just need to cut into the card like so:

Peek-a-boo Card

This type of card is a little more difficult to make, but only in that you need to measure and fold precisely. I found a wonderful video tutorial by Jennifer McQuire which clearly explains the process.

Jennifer used stamping to decorate her card, whereas we're more likely to use papers and cut-outs from Gecko Galz. Here is my card:

The owl in the aperture switches out to skeletons when you open the card. How cool is that!

I highly recommend that you watch Jennifer's video. She tells you the size to cut your card and where to score.

Below is my process using papers and collage images:

1. I cut the 3 pieces of black card and scored as directed by Jennifer. I added black papers on an orange mat to the outside of the card and the inside.
2. I used a 2 inch circle punch to cut the apertures, one in the front of the card and two in the middle section. You'll notice that my masking tape tore the black paper as I removed the die.
3. I added some Black Soot ink to the torn paper. Later I decided to cover it with die cur frames.

4. The back was glued to the middle section. The front section was lined up and the front aperture was used as guidance for gluing the image to the back section. This will be the image visible on the front of the card.
5.This is how the back and middle sections(reverse side) look now the image is adhered.
6. The front is now adhered to the middle section.

7. The flap attached to the front panel is placed behind the middle section.
8. Now when the card is opened, the flap appears in the aperture, so this is where the second image needs to be placed.
9. Lastly, I decorated the front of the card. You can see that I covered the torn paper part with die cut circle borders.
