Vera Lane Studio: Libra

Hello

I'm back again today to share another zodiac tag, this time featuring the lovely Libra girl available from Vera Lane Studio

The good news is that there are now zodiac boys too!

As usual, I used Copic markers to colour the images adding some finishing touches with pencils.
The background was made with PaperArtsy Infusions in Golden Sands and Emerald Glade ... I love the walnut stain in these pigments which create the grungy look. I also added some Nuvo sparkle pigments for a bit of autumn gold shimmer. The base is heat embossed in black sparkle powders, then coloured with Infusions and die cut - it forms nice grounding for the little girl.
I stamped around the edges with the leaf stamp from Janet's Tea Time stamp set from AALL & Create. I dyed the ribbon to match the background.

That's all for now.

I hope you'll come along and play on Vera Lane. It's such a friendly, fun place to be!

Gecko Galz: Children of the Past

Hello

I've been having a play with the Gecko Galz Monthly Kit Club image pack for September which is called Children of the Past. It contains 50 beautiful sepia photographs of children from bygone days. All of the monthly kits are fabulous, each containing 50 images.

I made two mixed media cards with my favourite photos from the Children of the Past kit.

I love the expression on the little girls face - in my head she's so envious and somewhat 'miffed' that she's not receiving the kiss ... such a precious moment captured on camera.

I printed the photos onto glossy photograph paper. I made backgrounds using stencils and Infusions and Brushos, adding some of the Sprinkle It for shimmer. Next I stamped in black mainly around the edges and added some gold paint splatters.

The photos were arranged along with some die cuts and some gems were added along the photo edges. I made some paper flowers and foliage to compliment the autumnal colours. I matted the backgrounds onto black and popped them onto card bases.

How adorable is this little girl with her knitting, taking time to pet her kitty :)

That's all for now!

* Gecko Galz: A Stitch in Time ATCs and Journal Page

 Hello

The September customer challenge at the Gecko Galz blog is 'A Stitch in Time'.

We also have the monthly Image Challenge, the monthly Christmas Image Challenge, the monthly Stamp Challenge, a Steampunk challenge and a Gothic Challenge on the blog, as well as 4 Facebook challenges.
We hope you can find some time to join in the fun.

The winner of the Customer challenge will get a $25 Gecko Galz Etsy Store voucher and the runner up a $12 voucher. There are plenty of free Gecko Galz images if you don't already own any. Each blog post has a free image to collect and, if you sign up for the monthly newsletter, there is the chance to claim a free collage set each month.  Also if you make any purchase of $2 or more you receive a free image.

I made a set of ATCs:

I used the Sew Vintage Collage Set and the Country Stitches ATC set.
I fussy cut around the characters in the collage images and inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I added some cheesecloth behind the image and popped each character on 3D foam for dimension. The patchwork ATC paper was matted onto black card to frame it.  I added a Tim Holtz Small Talk sticker for the sentiments.

Here are close ups of each ATC. Aren't the images lovely!

Country Stitches                              Sew Vintage

I also made an art journal page:

I love this image. It is from the Sewing Jewels Collage set and, of course, I enlarged it so that it would fit my mini journal. I fussy cut around the image and inked the edges. I added 3D tape to the reverse to add some shape and dimension.
I made a background by heat embossing some script then smooshing the card in Victorian Velvet Distress Oxide ink. White splatters were applied and a bit of stamping (which doesn't really show or add anything!) Layers of ribbon and lace were added for grounding and I stitched around the edge of the card. Some tiny heart washi tape was added.  The sentiment is a stamp.

I made this card using the Sew Vintage collage set.
More details on how this was made can be found here.

That's all for now!
I hope you'll join our Stitch in Time challenge where the winner will get a $25 shopping spree at the Gecko Galz shop.

* Path of Positivity: Thank You Ma'am

 Hello

Welcome to the September midway reminder for the Path of Positivity Challenge.

Our challenge is always Anything Goes with an optional theme.

This month's option is to design a project that focuses on celebrating YOUR COMMUNITY, YOUR NATION or THE WORLD AT LARGE.

Honours and Prizes include:
  • $6 worth of images from Scribbles Designs, for a person chosen in a random draw based on all qualifying entrants.
  • A badge for the following honours: Top PickVoter's ChoiceMost InspirationalRandom WinnerDT Delight.
Two weeks ago I decided to make a patriotic journal page featuring Queen Elizabeth 11 for my Path of Positivity challenge start post. Little did I realise, on the day my post was published, that she would make her last public appearance the following day and pass away two days later.
I am saddened and shocked by her loss and get emotional when watching the TV coverage of her family coming to terms with their grief and the momentous changes that lie ahead. At the same time, I am so very proud of the way this lady won respect from all corners of the world. She epitomises how we should all conduct ourselves.
Today the Queen was laid to rest. It has been a very sad day.

For my midway reminder post I made a digital scrapbook page using Kate Hadfield's delightful Great Britons doodle set along with the Great British Alphabet set and some floral freebies.
I am quite new to digital layouts, but this time I learned how to add a drop shadow and re-organise my layers so that some images are in front of others :)

We would love to see your creations!
Just make sure that your entry is positive, inspirational, motivational or encouraging in some way!

That's all for today!
Many thanks to Scribbles Designs for sponsoring the challenge.

I'll be back with a another Path of Positivity project in a couple of weeks time.

Thanks for stopping by today!

* Vera Lane Studio: Poo & Bun

Hello

It's my DT day at Vera Lane Studio and we have a new digi set release today called Poo and Bun. It features an adorable poodle and a bunny, along with a hat, flower, a cloud and two sentiments.

I coloured the images with Copics and fussy cut them. The background was heat embossed in white with an AALL & Create stamp, them smooshed in Distress Oxides and splattered with white acrylic ink. I added some stamping and inked along the edges , then popped the images onto torn 'Power Words' washi tape. I cut the sentiment into strips, ran a black marker around the edges and adhered them directly onto the background.
Here are some close ups:

* Vera Lane Studio: Caravan

Hello

It's my DT day at Vera Lane Studio and I have a journal page to share featuring two digi sets,  Caravan and one of the quirky girls from Time to Party.

I coloured the images with Copic markers and finished them with Polychromo pencils. Once they were fussy cut, I popped them directly onto a stencil stamped background. I used one of Janet's AALL & Create stencil, Dandelions, and smooshed Distress Oxides over it, then spritzed with water and stamped it onto white card. I added some Background Noise stamps (again AALL & Create) and some torn washi tape to ground the images.

The caravan set comes with a washing line and some clothes to peg onto it, but my little girl has finished her chores for the day and is rewarding herself with a cup cake and some fresh air!

Honours and Prizes include:

  • A badge for the following honours: Top PickVoter's ChoiceMost InspirationalRandom WinnerDT Delight.

I decided to go patriotic this time by using these lovely digi stamps of the Queen and one of her Corgis. I made a journal page:

I coloured the images (digi stamps from Vera Lane Studio) with Copics and Polychromo pencils and made a stencilled background with added heat embossed splatters and some stamping. I used torn washi tape to ground the images. The lovely sentiment was cut into strips and adhered in a wonky fashion, then emphasised with a black fine liner.

EDIT:  I am deeply saddened to hear of Queen Elizabeth !!'s passing on the 8th September. She was a truly inspirational lady who devotedly served her country and the Commonwealth for 70 years 241 days. She was our guiding star and our moral compass. She will be missed by all.
RIP Ma'am.
