* Path of Positivity: New Beginnings

Hello

Welcome to the first Path of Positivity Challenge. of 2024.

Our challenge is always Anything Goes with an optional theme. We have decided that our overall theme for 2024 will be THE POWER OF WORDS.

This month's option is to design a project that is inspired by quotes about New Beginnings.

Here are the quotes chosen for this month::

“Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365-page book. Write a good one."
— Brad Paisley

“New month, new intentions, new goals, new love, new light, and new beginnings.”
— April Mae Monterrosa

"The magic in new beginnings is the most powerful of them all."
 — Josiyah Martin

"New Year's Day. A fresh start. A new chapter waiting to be written."
 — Sarah Ban Breathnach

“Every moment is a fresh beginning.”
— T.S. Eliot

Honours and Prizes include:

  • $6 worth of images from Scribbles Designs, for a person chosen in a random draw based on all qualifying entrants.
  • A badge for the following honours: Top PickVoter's ChoiceMost InspirationalRandom WinnerDT Delight.

Here is my DT project.

I made a notebook cover which can be removed and placed around a new notebook when the old one is full. It has an elastic closure and is simply held in place with tiny paperclips where the cover folds inside at the front and back. I'm using this for my new 2024 notebook to track all of my DT projects and dates.

I used beautiful Hearts Zentangled images from Conjurer of Dreams. I digitally added a border frame around the image before printing it out. The images were heat embossed with clear powder to make them more durable on the cover. They were matted onto a black, die cut rectangles with a Lawn Fawn die.

The background was scored to have a one inch fold around the front and back of the notebook and scored several times down the centre to create a flexible spine. It was dipped several times into puddles of Oxide inks (Pumice Stone and Weathered Wood), then splattered with white paints. I inked around the edges and folds in black ink and used my finger and silver acrylic paint to swipe along the edges, giving them a little more protection from wear and tear. Finally, silver splatters were added.
The elastic was threaded through a tiny hole poked into the spine and held in place with a double knot..

The front cover has a Hearts Zentangled girl and a 'new beginning' quote from TS Elliot. I heat embossed a wooden heart with silver WOW powder and adhered it to the quote.

The back has a different Hearts Zentangled girl and a die cut flourish which I heat embossed in silver. The flourish was a little too long, so I trimmed the ends and used one of the off cuts to embellish the heart on the front of the cover.

That's all for now.
We would love to see your creations!
Just make sure that your entry is positive, inspirational, motivational or encouraging in some way!

* Vera Lane Studio: Life Happens Notepad

Hello!

Happy Monday!

I have a second project for Vera Lane Studio today. It is a little notebook cover:

Covering notebooks is one of my favourite projects to do. The completed project makes a lovely little gift.
I bought this kraft covered notepad and pen set on a city break in Glasgow, where I found a lovely little shop, selling all sorts of bits and bobs, called Flying Tiger. I decided not to cover the front of the notepad, as I love the kraft and black look, but I added some hessian ribbon.
The image is from Girls on the Block. I coloured her with Copic markers and added some glitter to her hair and eyelids and some white highlights. She is glued on top of the trim.
The sentiment, from the Top of My Head Collage Sheet, was split into two sections, inked around the edges and adhered to the notepad front.

* Vera Lane Studio: Matilda Note Book

Hello!

I'm back with my second post of the day for Vera Lane Studio
This time I used Matilda 2 to alter and decorate the cover of a kraft, spiral bound note book. I'm going to use this for my important DT information for Vera Lane Studio in 2019.

I used Graphic 45 design paper and ran scissors around the edges to distress it, then I applied some Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I die cut some border strips from kraft card and inked these also with Vintage Photo, then attached them around the design paper. Matilda is coloured with Copic markers and fussy cut. I also coloured the Numbers with Copics and added some white Posca paint highlights. Matilda is glued onto a piece of contrasting design paper.
The Numbers are overlapped slightly to fit with the whimsical feel of the cover. I added some daisy, lace flower trim along one side and popped a tiny pearl into the centre of each one. Some hessian trim was added to the opposite side.
