* AALL & Create: Collect Beautiful Moments

Hello!

Today I am Guest Designer for AALL & Create

I have created an 8 x 10 inch mixed media piece on watercolour paper which I'm calling 'Collect Beautiful Moments'. The magnifying glass from stamp set # 319 and the tiny sentiment beneath it reminded me that most days we have to look really hard to see the little things that make us happy. In recent times there has not been much joy, but in each and every day there have been special moments that we should savour and remember. For me it might be bird song from the trees or raindrops glistening on leaves and flowers.

Step by step:

1. The magnifying glass from #319 Magnify It was stamped onto watercolour paper and coloured with watercolours and Polychromo pencils. The image was fussy cut.
2. A second magnifying glass was stamped onto watercolour paper and the background given a wash of colour.
3. Crackle paste was applied through the # 91 Panache stencil.

4. More watercolours were applied to the background and over the crackle paste.
5. The background was stamped using #362 Splodge, #364 Intersecting Circles and #366 Roundly. Paint splatters were added.
6. The edges of the piece were inked with black ink and it was also applied lightly over the crackle to emphasise the texture (I forgot to take a photograph!)

8. Flower sprays from #324 Blooming Beauty were stamped and fussy cut, as was the Bee from # 330 Honeybee.
9.  #14 Cells were die cut in black and snipped to give some embellishments.
10 #350 Splattered Numbers were heat embossed in white on black card to provide more embellishments.

11. The elements were adhered using glue and foam tape for dimension.
12. Three Tim Holtz stars were coloured with Red Pepper alcohol ink and adhered.
13. A Tim Holtz quote chip was also adhered as a sentiment.

Here are some close up photos:

I love the darling quote beneath the handle of the magnifying glass.
The bee was shaped, given two sets of wings and has a little Stickles on its top wings:

The crackle paste through the Panache stencil adds texture to the background:

The gunmetal stars were altered to red with alcohol ink:

The #14 Cells die cut can be snipped into sections to add as embellishments:

#350 Spattered Numbers when heat embossed makes perfect embellishments:

* Vera Lane Studio: Sakana

Hello!

Today is my DT day at Vera Lane Studio and I have made a card with the adorable Sakana.

Sakana is an older digi set. There are two, quirky-cute Sakanas: she comes on her own and also with a fish on her head. She has three sentiments and a separate fish.

Here is my card:

I coloured both Sakanas with Copic markers and made my card with the fish 'hat' Sakana. The background is Distress Oxides in Twisted Citron and Dusty Concord applied directly to card, spritzed and dried. Heat embossing in white with stamp #366 from AALL & Create and tone on tone background stamping with Janet's AALL & Create Background Noise stamp set #338. Sakana is popped on foam tape and is grounded with some strips of card, inked with the same Distress Oxide colours. Black stamping around the edges finishes the background and the Best Fishes sentiment is cut into two and popped onto the background.

Here they both are:

That's all for now.
I hope you'll come along and play on Vera Lane.
It's such a friendly, fun place to be!

Thanks for stopping by today.

* AALL & Create: Memories Mini Book

Hello!

Today I am Guest DT for AALL & Create and my project is a mini book for keeping special memories safe.

My book is created from 300 gsm cardstock with an accordion spine and four pages attached. Each page is made from two pieces of card glued back to back, along three edges, leaving a tuck spot for the double sided tags which can be used for secret journalling. The back of each page is image free for photos or extra journalling.
The pages are A6 in size.

Step by step:
1. PaperArtsy Freso paints in Mermaid, Caramel and Chocolate Pudding, were brayered onto white card.
2. The images (Camera, Feather, scroll and suitcase) from stamp set #321 Enjoy The Journey were stamped and fussy cut.
3. A black marker was run along all the cut edges to give a neat finish.

4. The stencil, #94 Sundew, was brayered with Heavy Cream Fresco paint, spritzed with water and stamped onto the painted card.
5. The images were stamped onto the A6 page ready to be decoupaged.
6. The feather was cut and shaped by rolling it around a paintbrush handle, the cut edges were feathered slightly.

7.  Before decoupaging any images the background was stamped with Speckled Egg Distress Oxide and #364 Intersecting Circles Stamp. Random sections of #336 Bold Alphas were stamped with Vintage Photo. Blue paint splatters (Mermaid) were added to the backgrounds.
8. The beautiful flowers from #324 Blooming Beauty were stamped onto smooth white card and fussy cut to be used as embellishments.  Several die cuts were prepared using die #14 Cells.
9. The #350 Splattered Numbers stamp was heat embossed onto black card, also to be used as embellishments.

10. Each page was assembled using glue and foam tape for dimension. White paint splatters were added.
11. Stamps #354 Bunny and Bunnies and #360 Wish were coloured with Copic markers and fussy cut.
12. The cutie girls were added on hessian ric-rac trim to ground them and words from stamp set #321 Enjoy the Journey were stamped, trimmed, inked in black and adhered to each page.

Here are the four pages:

As you can see, each double page has a tag tucked in between for secret journalling or photos.

The reverse of each page is coloured with paints, stamped and stencilled, but left with out images, so that photos or journalling can be added.

The dies are perfect for cutting into small sections. The waste from the dies is used too. Both above and below, the white numbers are the negative spaces left by the die.

The spine of the book is an accordion fold and the pages are attached.

* Vera Lane Studio: Bow Bee

Hello!

Today is my DT day at Vera Lane Studio. We have a new digi set release today called Bow Bees featuring two delightful bee characters, a beehive and two sentiments.

Here is my project:

I coloured the images with Copic markers and fussy cut them. The background is made by smooshing card through Distress Oxides (Scattered Straw and Fossilised Amber) and water. The background stamp (AALL & Create # 330 Honey Bee) was heat embossed in white and tone on tone stamping (AALL & Create #338 Background Noise) applied. More stamping with Background Noise was applied around the background edges, this time in black. White paint splatters were added and the images were adhered.

That's all for now.
I hope you'll come along and play on Vera Lane.
It's such a friendly, fun place to be!

* Artsystamper: Happy Birthday

Hello!

Happy Monday!

Today sees the start of a new challenge at the Artsystamper Challenge Blog
Each challenge runs for two weeks and starts on the first and third Monday of the month.
The theme for this challenge is Happy Birthday.
I hope that you can find time to join in the fun!

The winner will receive the stamp set of their choice from TheArtsystamperShop. The Winner and Top 3 will receive a badge for their blog.

Beverly Cole’s selections offer stamps and sentiments in each set as well as pre-coloured images for easy, last minute cards. Why not take a moment and check out what she has in store!

Here is my card:

I used the Vintages Roses and Birds digital set for the images and the Wintery Paper Pack for the sky background and the lavender backdrop. I distressed the edges of the papers and inked them. I added some stamping to the lavender paper to add a little more interest.
The image of the birds on the blossom branch was printed out onto the sky background and then again separately twice, so that they could be fussy cut and decoupaged. Each time the fussy cut edges were lightly inked and the blossoms shaped.
The sentiment is from the Outdoors Man digi set - it is distressed and popped on foam tape.
