Path of Positivity: Express Yourself with Art

Hello

Welcome to the Path of Positivity Challenge. #121.

Our challenge is always Anything Goes with an optional theme. We have decided that our overall theme for 2024 will be THE POWER OF WORDS.

This month's option is to design a project that is inspired by quotes about Art /Creativity.

Here are this month's quotes, but you can choose your own:

“Creativity is seeing what others see and thinking what no one else ever thought.” — Albert Einstein

“Make visible what, without you, might perhaps never have been seen.” — Oprah Winfrey

“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” — Pablo Picasso

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” — Edgar Degas

“You use a glass mirror to see your face. You use works of art to see your soul.” — George Bernard Shaw

Honours and Prizes include:
  • $6 worth of images from Scribbles Designs, for a person chosen in a random draw based on all qualifying entrants.
  • A badge for the following honours: Top PickVoter's ChoiceMost InspirationalRandom WinnerDT Delight.
Here is my DT project.

I used an old Woodware stamp called Van Cat and coloured him with Copics. He was fussy cut and I made him a paint splattered background using a star stencil from AALL & Create to add Oxide inks to the background then I added stamped splatters (also an AALL & Create stamp) in Versafine. The sentiment is a mixture of words from Visible Image and AALL & Create.

That's all for now.
We would love to see your creations!
Just make sure that your entry is positive, inspirational, motivational or encouraging in some way!

* Start Doing What You Love

Hello

I love this little girl. She's a collage image by Art by Marlene.

I made a postcard for my journal. The background started as a stamped stencil image. I then added crackle texture paste through a heart stencil and when dry used Oxide re-inkers to drip colour from top to bottom of the page. I added some tone on tone texture stamping and some black stamping around the edges. Gold wax was added to the hearts and they were outlined with gold Posca pen and Charcoal watercolour pencil. Gold acrylic paint was added around the edges of the page. Washi tape acts as grounding for the collage image.

I love the effect of crackle paste ...

Floral Flip Journal Pages

 Hello!

A couple of weeks ago I did an online workshop with the very talented Tracy Scott. I have been the owner of a large Dylusions journal for many years, but have never had the courage to get started. I have torn pages out to use for mixed media projects, but as far as journalling goes, it was left untouched. Until now ...

We used PaperArtsy Fresco Paints and Tracy's 046 PaperArtsy Stamp set and stencils. (see end of post)

Here is what we made:

It consists of 2 pages, the first is painted and stencilled and so too is the back of it. The second page was painted in a contrasting colour and stencilled.

The gorgeous flowers were created with the stamps, they were cut and layered and added to the first page. The page was cut away to reveal the page behind.

I just love the vibrant colours of the pages. The flowers are gorgeous. I am really pleased with how this turned out. Hopefully now, I'll be able to tackle some pages myself!

* Vera Lane Studio: Alice and White Rabbit

Hello!

I hope this Monday finds everyone safe and well.

It's a new release day at Vera Lane Studio and that time of year when Alice appears everywhere! Janet has created a 3 digi stamp set called Alice and White Rabbit and I have used all 3 digis in my art journal page.

In my scene, Alice has fallen down the rabbit hole and has had time to straighten herself out before the White Rabbit comes rushing by!

I started the page by collaging some book paper, then adding crackle texture paste through a leafy stencil. Once this was dry, I sprinkled PaperArtsy Infusions in Emerald Isle over the page and spritzed with water. I popped a circle mask over the page and added Neocolours in teals and dark greens around the outside.
I highlighted the leaves with Posca Pens in both black and white and added some Inktense Pencil colours to help them stand out a little more. Some stamping with a PaperArtsy flourish stamp along the edges of the page and some paint splatters finish off the background.

Alice and the White Rabbit are coloured with Copic markers and fussy cut. They are glued directly onto the page with some Prills and Gel Medium to ground them, representing the tunnel floor.

The sentiment is part of this digi set. I cut it into strips and inked the edges with black ink. The strips are glued onto the background and I went around the words with a black fine liner.

* Vera Lane Studio: Le Petit Prince

Hello!

My goodness, don't Mondays come around quickly! And it's a new month! The clocks went forward yesterday giving us more daylight in the evenings, so that is most welcome. I'm really looking forward to some fairer weather now so that I can get into the garden and start tidying and planting.

Today at Vera Lane Studio we have a new release. It's a digi set called Le Petit Prince and he and his fox companion are adorable. Here is the page I made:

As usual I coloured the images with Copic markers and added some white Posca pen highlights. This time I fussy cut the images and ran a black marker around the outline to hide any cutting imperfections.
The background is a gelli print which has some stamping, modelling paste through a stencil and black paint splatters. The edges of the background are inked in Ranger Archival ink.
The Prince and fox anre grounded by a torn strip of washi tape and adhered directly onto the background. The sentiment, one of two in the set, was coloured by lightly pouncing with Distress Ink on a baby wipe.

* Vera Lane Studio: Grow a Happy Life

Hello!

I have a Vera Lane Studio project to share.
This time I have an oldie digi set called Grow a Happy Life - I love that thought!

Here is a 5 x 5 page I made. Originally it was going to be a card, but I have so many at the moment that I decided to add her to this little journal. The good thing is if I'm ever short of a card front I can cut this from the album and glue to a card base:

I used design paper for the background. I inked the edges with Vintage Photo and added strips of green washi tape for the ground. The digs were coloured with bright spring coloured Copics and a little Derwent Inktense, fussy cut and arranged on the page. I added a sun from the Sunshine collage sheet and toned the yellow colour down a little with a white pastel crayon. I decided to die cut the sentiment and attached it with a brad (not used one of those for years!) Next I inked the cut edge of the design paper in black and matted the scene onto pink card, then attached it to the kraft card in my journal. Some sequins were added with tiny flat back pearls in the centre and I coloured some mulberry flowers with distress oxides.

She's such a quirky girl - I love her!

* Vera Lane Studio: Hermione

Hello!

Take a look at who's come to Vera Lane Studio! It's Hermione come to join her friend Harry!

Hermione comes with her cat, Crookshanks, and three sentiments.

Here is the art journal page I made:

She's a little cutie! I coloured Hermione and Crookshanks with Copics. They both have Glossy Accent eyes and white Posca pen highlights. They are fussy cut and popped on foam pads onto the background with a torn strip of wash tape to ground them.
The background was made with Gelatos and Neocolor crayons which I blended with my finger. I added some gold acrylic paint very thinly, again with my finger. In the middle of the page I applied modelling paste through a brick wall stencil. I gave the "bricks" a wash of distress oxides to colour them and added brick stamping in Vintage Photo around the edges. The edge of the page was darkened with black Neocolor and blended in. I finally spritzed the page with iridescent gold Glimmer Mist.

Hermione's page is part of a double spread with Harry:

* Vera Lane Studio: Potter

Hello!

Today at Vera Lane Studio we have a new release.
It's Potter! And it's Harry ... and ... he's so adorable with his owl, Hedwig!

I made a journal page:

I'm not giving anything away, but you're only seeing half of my page!!
I coloured Harry and Hedwig with Copics and added some white highlights. I gave Harry's spectacles some Glossy Accent lenses and Hedwig has Glossy accent eyes. I fussy cut them and added some foam tape to the back, so they would stand out from the background.
I next spritzed the page with iridescent gold Glimmer Mist.
Harry was popped onto the page and some sequin stars placed around his wand. One of the sentiments was cut into strips and adhered to the page, then, when dry, outlined in a scribbly way with a black fine liner pen. The white sentiment looked quite stark on the page, so I used a blending sponge to add a little colour.
