Hello!
Welcome to a new week - the last one in February. We are having some lovely, mild weather here in the NW and in the past few days the trees have started to bud and blossom and the tiny daffodils are in full bloom. I love the early signs of spring!
Today is my feature day at Vera Lane Studio and I decided to make a couple of projects using The Thumbs, a super-cute, whimsical family of seven that was released last week.
Here are my projects:
I made this card using two of The Thumbs. The girls' dresses are paper pieced and the rest of the images are coloured with Copics. I added some shadows to the dresses using markers. The grungy background is a gelli print with text stamping in Vintage Photo and a border stamped in black. Black paint splatters, then gold paint splatters were added to the background and it was inked around the edges with Vintage Photo, then Black ink.
A torn strip of washi tape and a torn piece of design paper, inked around the edges for definition, grounds my girls and they are popped on foam pads for dimension. A Tim Holtz sticker provides the sentiment.
Next I made a couple of tag bookmarks:
Each bookmark measures 5 x 12 cms. I used a left over gelli print and a Distress Oxide background. I added some text stamping in Vintage Photo and some black stamping . The bookmark with the older lady also has some Tim Holtz rub on elements. The back of the bookmarks is design paper. The edges of the bookmarks are inked in Vintage Photo and then Black Archival ink and finally some gold acrylic paint was rubbed along the edges.
The characters are coloured with Copics and their dresses are paper pieced. They are glued directly onto the background with thin strips of washi tape grounding my characters. Finally, some thick jute string was threaded through each tag.
