* Vera Lane Studio: The Thumbs

Hello!

Welcome to a new week - the last one in February. We are having some lovely, mild weather here in the NW and in the past few days the trees have started to bud and blossom and the tiny daffodils are in full bloom. I love the early signs of spring!

Today is my feature day at Vera Lane Studio and I decided to make a couple of projects using The Thumbs, a super-cute, whimsical family of seven that was released last week.

Here are my projects:

I made this card using two of The Thumbs. The girls' dresses are paper pieced and the rest of the images are coloured with Copics. I added some shadows to the dresses using markers. The grungy background is a gelli print with text stamping in Vintage Photo and a border stamped in black. Black paint splatters, then gold paint splatters were added to the background and it was inked around the edges with Vintage Photo, then Black ink.
A torn strip of washi tape and a torn piece of design paper, inked around the edges for definition, grounds my girls and they are popped on foam pads for dimension. A Tim Holtz sticker provides the sentiment.

Next I made a couple of tag bookmarks:

Each bookmark measures 5 x 12 cms. I used a left over gelli print and a Distress Oxide background. I added some text stamping in Vintage Photo and some black stamping . The bookmark with the older lady also has some Tim Holtz rub on elements. The back of the bookmarks is design paper. The edges of the bookmarks are inked in Vintage Photo and then Black Archival ink and finally some gold acrylic paint was rubbed along the edges.
The characters are coloured with Copics and their dresses are paper pieced. They are glued directly onto the background with thin strips of washi tape grounding my characters. Finally, some thick jute string was threaded through each tag.

I hope you'll come along and play on Vera Lane.

* Gecko Galz: Moonlight and Silhouettes

Hello!

Today it's my DT day at the Gecko Galz blog. The theme for this month's customer challenge is Moonlight and Magic, so all of my cards today feature moonlight in one form or another.

Here is the first:

I used a frame die to cut the intricate leafy pattern from some card coloured with  Distress Oxides. This was placed over the beautiful image from the Moonlight Magic collage sheet. I enhanced the image by adding tiny gold heat embossed stars and using an embossing pen to add specks of heat embossed gold. Once the image was in place,  I matted the frame onto silver mirror card (I did have trouble containing the glue in a few places!) and then onto black card. I thought that the 'Dare to Dream' sentiment from my favourite Charming Words collage sheet, suited this image, so I printed and cut it out, inked the edges in black and matted it onto some black card.

My next two cards are silhouette cards using stamps from the Charming Silhouette stamp set.

Fairy Silhouette:

The silhouette stamp was printed onto smooth white card and when the ink was perfectly dry, I used a blending tool to add colour using Distress and Memento Inks. I clear heat embossed the whole image to make the colours pop even more, then matted the silhouette image onto black card, cut with a stitched rectangle die, and then onto a background of black and white polka dot card. Before the matted silhouette was added, I attached some black and white ribbon across the centre of the background card. The image was popped on foam pads for some dimension and a knot of ribbon was added alongside the image mat.

* Vera Lane Studio: Celebrate ATC

Hello!

This month at the Vera Lane Studio Facebook Group we have an ATC swap hosted by Sharon. Sharon has chosen the Celebration as the theme and here is my ATC:

I decided to celebrate the tiny things in life - the things we normally take for granted, like birds singing and bugs and insects doing what bugs and insects do! In my utility room I have a little colony of ladybugs who are huddled together in one corner of the ceiling - they are not a pretty sight, but I couldn't remove them after they had found somewhere warm to hibernate. Today we have an unseasonably high temperature of 18 degrees and one of them has ventured away from the rest - I suppose he/she thinks it's spring and this could well be a bad thing.  I'm going to buy some of the wooden Bug Hotels you can find in garden centres and place them in sheltered places around the garden, so that next winter they have somewhere to rest.

Anyhow, back to my ATC. I used one of the lovely Healing Heart girls and prettied up her dress with gold trim and gem buttons and gave her tights some added detail with a black fine-liner pen. I gave her a snail from Snail's Pace and a bird from Lovely Garden. I coloured the digi stamps with Copics and added white Posca pen highlights. Also, you'll notice the extra specks of stray ink that always find their way onto my finished ATCs - I really don't know how I do that!!

The background is a gelli print made with Distress Oxides - I added a white die cut border at the base, topped with some gold glitter tape and some fine gold trim. A piece of gold ric-rac trim was placed along the right hand side. The sentiment was made using the new Baby Powder font from Vera Lane Studio - I printed it out in Bold, cut it into strips and inked the edges with Faded Jeans. It was glued directly onto the background. The girl, bird and snail were popped on foam tape for some dimension.
Finally the edge of the ATC was inked first with Faded Jeans and then with Black Ranger Archival ink.

* Vera Lane Studio: Matryoshka

Hello!

It's Monday again and I'm back at home after a wonderful week in Cyprus to celebrate my husband's birthday. We've got to the stage where we don't need any more 'stuff', so instead of exchanging presents, we go on a little break or sometimes a holiday.

Back in my craft room this weekend I've been making a card for my DT day at Vera Lane Studio. Today sees the release of a new digi set called Matryoshka and here is the card I made:

There are two different Matryoshka in the set and a sentiment the says Happy Birthday. I resized one of the Matryoshka so that I had a set of three. I coloured them with Copic markers and used a white Posca paint pen for highlights and a Gold Posca pen to add some details. I fussy cut them, leaving a thin white border.  The background was made using Distress Oxides in Fossilised Amber, Salty Ocean and Faded Jeans on a gelli plate. I spritzed the inks and placed a stencil over one corner. The print that I used was actually the clean off print from the back of the stencil. I blended some Salty Ocean and Faded Jeans inks around the edges of the print and placed a torn strip of black and white washi tape along the bottom to ground my set of matryoshka. The Matryoshka were glued directly onto the background, starting with the smallest, so that the bigger ones would be in front. The sentiment was cut into strips, inked and glued directly onto the background.

I hope you'll come along and play on Vera Lane.

* Vera Lane Studio: Love Is

Hello!

Welcome to a new week!

It's my DT day at Vera Lane Studio once again and today I have a Love page to share. Love Is is a 5 digi set which was released in January. It is perfect for any occasion, but with the hugs and kisses sentiment it makes a beautiful Valentine!

I made a 5 x 5 inch page which can be used as a card topper when needed.

The quirky girl comes with a flower, a heart and a sentiment and she also comes holding the flower.
I coloured my girl and flower with Copic markers and fussy cut them. White Posca pen highlights were added and some glitter applied to her eyelids and hair.
The background was made with Distress Oxides applied with a piece of folded acetate to control the placement of colours. I left some white space. Vintage Photo text is stamped along both side edges along with a stamp that says 'Daydream'. Then in Black Soot I stamped some textured circles from a PaperArtsy stamp set. I splattered diluted black, white and gold paint with a fan brush and finally I blended Vintage Photo ink around the  edges of the card and finished with Black Archival inked edges to add more definition. A strip of gold XOXO washi tape acts as grounding for my girl and flower.

* Vera Lane Studio: Bunny and Fox

Hello!

Today I'm sharing a cute notecard I made using Vera Lane Studio's Bunny and Fox digi set.

I adore these two whimsical characters and I've always had a thing for dressed animals (not so much in real life though!).
Fox and Bunny were coloured with Copics and fussy cut. I made a simple background by adding Distress Oxides to an acrylic stamping block, lightly spritzing with water then using it as a stamp. I love the compact edges you get from block stamping and the white border.  Once the ink was dry I stamped some bare tree branches in one corner, first in Vintage Photo and then offset slightly in black to give the illusion of depth. I popped a little bird on one of the branches. The stamp set is from one of my favourite, local manufacturers here in the UK - Inkilicious
Some torn striped wash tape grounds Fox and Bunny and they are popped on foam pads for dimension. The sentiment 'Hello' is from the Hello Spring digi set (not available in the shop right now, but available on request).

I hope you'll come along and play on Vera Lane.
