* Gecko Galz: Sea of Dreams 2

 Hello

Today is my DT day at Gecko Galz and I have some more Summer inspired projects to share.

The customer challenge theme this month is Sea of Dreams and these are my interpretation of that theme.

My first project is an altered notebook, so that plans for summer days out and picnics can be noted down.

This lovely image, from Beauty and the Beach, shouts summertime to me - she's running along the beach with her puppy and looks so happy! I think I see her handsome partner following behind! So the image was printed and the edges distressed. I popped it onto paper from the Tortuga Bay ATC set, rounding the corners on the right hand side to match the shape of the notebook. I used a black Sharpie marker to colour the kraft coloured notebook cover in black. Some gold, sequin-waste trim was layered across the paper, then the image glued on top. I found this trim in my stash and added it along the left hand side - I secured it in place with bulldog clips until it was fully adhered. Some die cut seaweed was also adhered around the image for texture and dimension.
The title is Tim Hotz alphabet tiles stuck onto white card. I trimmed around the card and added some Glossy Accents to make the words dimensional.

For my second project, I made two mini notecards.
The papers are from the Tortuga Bay ATC set once more. I added white paint splatters and die cut small squares to add behind each image.

These three ladies are also from the Beauty and the Beach collage set. Everything is glued flat and the dies and dried flowers add a little texture and dimension.

This image is from the Aloha collage set. The words I chose came from the Tim Holtz Small Talk sticker book.

My final project is a set of cards.

This was the one I blogged about on the 1st July and if you want the details you can see them here.

That's all for now!

* Vera Lane Studio: Seagulls

Hello

It's my DT day at Vera Lane Studio and we have a brand new digi set release called Seagulls

I love these crazy birds and their wilful expressions. In real life, I find them to be crazy-scary, but such fun to watch and I love hearing their cries and squawks at the seaside.

I made a journal page with two of them, standing on the wooden groynes, and one of the sentiments:

I coloured the images with my Copic markers and added a few white Posca pen highlights. Once fussy cut they were put aside while I made the background.  I stamped the Crashing Waves stamp from AALL & Create with Versamark and heat embossed with white powder. I then used various Distress Oxides spritzed with water, and smooshed the stamped background into it to pick up colour. White paint splatters were added. I doodled a border and added some black circles using the Roundly stamp. I made two cuts in the waves to slot the wooden stumps through. The seagulls were adhered on top of the stumps and the sentiment cut into strips and adhered.

This sentiment makes me smile!
Once I was at the seaside (minding my own business, sitting on a bench on a pier and enjoying the fresh air and scenery) eating a sandwich for lunch when a huge seagull swooped down and stole the whole thing. Maybe that's why I find them scary now :)

That's all for now.

I hope you'll come along and play on Vera Lane. It's such a friendly, fun place to be!

* Gecko Galz: Sea of Dreams

Hello

As we start the month of July, we have a brand new customer challenge over at the at Gecko Galz blog.
This month the challenge theme is Sea of Dreams and you can interpret this any way you choose. The lucky winner will win a $25 store voucher.

Here is my inspiration project:

I made a couple of notecards with a sea theme using images from the Sea Life collage set, added to background paper from the new Tortuga Bay ATC set. I added hessian trim which resembles fishing net and cheesecloth along with die cut sea weed and a flower. I tucked a seahorse charm into each and added an inspirational sentiment from the Tim Holtz Small Talk sticker pad.
These would also look nice popped into a little box frame, as a keepsake.

I distressed the edges of the papers and the kraft card mats. The textural elements add to the seashore vibe. I inked white card with Distress Oxides for the seaweed die cuts and flowers.

The little pearl in the centre of the flower is in keeping with the sea theme.

* Gecko Galz: Colour of Summer Flag Book

Hello!

I hope that the start of the new month sees you all safe and well.

The new month sees the start of a new customer challenge at the Gecko Galz blog. The theme for June is Colour of Summer. We would love for you to join the challenge using one or more products from Gecko Galz.

For me, summer is a time for visiting the seaside. I love the sea air and the salty small of the ocean, so my colours for summer are blues, teals, turquoise and sands.
Here is my project:

I made a flag booklet which, when opened up, has the pages flapping in different directions.  The base of my booklet is 300 gsm card which I have painted with chalk acrylics using a brayer and stencilled over the top. The front and back has additional stamping.
The beautiful images are from the Summer Seas and Sea Life collage sets with a few additions from the Beachy Jewels set.

The front and back of the booklet showing the tags incorporated into the back page. Tim Holtz Small talk stickers are used for the labels.

The booklet opens like so:

or individual pages can be turned:

Textured trim, cheesecloth and decoupaging add more dimension. The spines are also decorated with tiny images:

* Gecko Galz: Seaside and Nautical

Hello!

Today is my feature day on the Gecko Galz blog.
Each month we have a customer challenge and the winner gets a $25 spending spree in the Gecko Galz Etsy shop.
This month the challenge theme is Shabby Chic Seaside.
There are still 7 days left if you wish to play along.

***
My projects today are nautical and seaside themed, though none of them are what I would call shabby chic in style.

Here they are:

First of all, I have a wall hanging made from wooden popsicle sticks.

I made the substrate by gluing popsicle sticks together and attaching some twine as a hanging loop. I painted the sticks with white gesso, then watered down some phthalo green acrylic paint to give the sticks a wash of colour. I decided to blend some Vintage Photo Distress Ink along the edges.
The beautiful image is from the Summer Seas collage sheet. I enlarged it and printed it onto tissue paper. I used matt medium to attach it to the sticks.
I added small and medium art stones around the image as a frame, colouring here and there with a wash of Vintage Photo ink. In the bottom corner I made a cluster of natural fibres and sea shells (which were gifted to me from overseas - I wish I could remember whereabouts they came from!), filling in any gaps with more art stones.

My second project is an altered notebook:

This started out as an ordinary paperback notebook. I covered the front, back and spine with kraft card to make it sturdier, measuring the dimensions of the book and using my score board to make the spine folds. I inked around the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Next I distressed some papers (First Class and La Boheme paper pack) and the sail boat image from the lovely Summer Seas collage sheet and attached these with glue to the front cover. Twine ribbon was attached below the image and sticker letters were adhered  to spell out 'Daily Log'.
The fastening is twine with wooden beads at the end and a fish charm. The end of the twine was attached to the inside back cover and covered with kraft card. The twine then wraps around the book and tuck in on itself: the beads add weight and help to hold it in place.

I gave this to my friend's husband to take on their cruise so that he could keep a memory journal of each day.

My third project is a set of six note cards which I have packaged as a little gift set:

These were quick and easy makes on 4 inch square cards. The die cut matting and layering with kraft paper, along with the twine ribbon adds some extra interest and dimension.
The paper I used is from the First Class paper pack and the images are from the Beachy Jewels set.  The images were enlarged before printing. All the paper edges were distressed by scraping scissors along the edges. I love how these turned out! I packaged them in a cellophane envelope with a kraft card belly band and another matted shell image which had a thin piece of twine tied around and knotted in a small bow.

****
I made a couple of shabby chic projects as inspiration for the customer challenge. These were posted on my blog on the 1st August and the details can be viewed here. Here is a photo of the two projects:
