* Vera Lane Studio: Bookmarks and Paperclips

Hello!

This is my second post for Vera Lane Studio today. If you are interested, you can see the first one here.

Last week saw the release of a collage sheet called Top of My Head. The pre-coloured images are fabulous for quick and easy makes and the colours are vibrant and fun!

I found a way to horizontally flip the pdf sheet and was able to make a set of bookmarks and paperclips with two of the images. (I didn't think it all the way through, as two of the images have words,  and these turned out back to front and illegible!)

Here are my makes:

So, I cut out the images, coloured in their eyes and added some white Posca pen highlights. I ran a black marker around the cut edges.  I inked them with Versamark sticky ink, then heat embossed them with clear powder. This makes them sturdier and shiny.

To make the paperclips:
I attached the paperclip to the back of one image with double sided sticky tape. I added tape to the whole image background, peeled the backing away, added some glue for good measure and stuck the reversed image on top. To make sure the sides stuck properly, I held them in place with a small bulldog clip until they were completely dry.

To make the bookmarks:
I cut pieces of 300 gsm card to 1.75 x 6 inches and rounded the corners. I applied acrylic paint to both sides of the card with a baby wipe, taking the colours from the image. Once the paint was dry, I added contrasting colour with bubble wrap. When this was dry, I doodled around the circles with a white Posca pen and added white splashes with watered down acrylic paint. I inked around the edges with black archival ink, then attached the images, again completely covering the back of one image with double sided sticky tape. The neck and shoulders were attached to the card and just the head left loose. The sentiments come with the collage sheet - I cut them into strips, inked the edges in black, glued them to the card and doodled around them.

I hope you'll come along and play on Vera Lane.
It's such a friendly, fun place to be!

* Vera Lane Studio: Bow Bee and Friends

Hello!

I decided to work in miniature this week for my DT post for Vera Lane Sudio. Probably not the best choice since my last pair of decent scissors have gone walkabout. I ended up using tiny embroidery scissors, so apologies for the 'rough' fussy cutting :)  Looking on the positive side - I can now go craft shopping with a purpose!

So, this week I have used the Bow Bee and Friends collage sheet. Although this comes as a coloured pdf sheet and is ready to print, it can still be resized and flipped horizontally for making back to back projects like the paper clips below:

I inserted the collage sheet into PowerPoint (Word would work just as well) and sized it down to what I wanted. When I was happy with the size, I copied and pasted the sheet and then flipped the copied sheet horizontally. Next came the fun part - fussy cutting with the embroidery scissors! Once the images were cut out, I went around the edges with a black Copic marker to disguise any cutting imperfections. I also coloured the edges of the back of the images in black, so that when they were glued together any overlapping would not be as noticeable.
I added red double sided tape to both images and secured the paperclip with more tape. I added some Cosmic Shimmer glue and stuck the two Bow Bees together. I gave her Glossy Accent eyes and stripes and Diamond Stickles on her wings and eye flower. The front and back of each paperclip is identical.  She is beautiful, I think!

Next I made a couple of key ring fobs. I found the wooden fobs, which are 31mm x 50mm, in the children's section of my local craft store:

The ring was removed from the fob so that the fob could be decorated. The background is a gelli print on ordinary photo copier paper. I cut it out slightly larger than my key fob rectangle and adhered it with matt medium.  When it was dry, I sanded around the edges with an emery board nail file and this removed the excess paper and chamfered the edges. More matt medium was applied. The elements from Bow Bee were fussy cut and edged with black Copic pen, then adhered to the background and coated with more matt medium. Glossy Accents and Stickles were added for some texture. The back of each keyring is just the plain gelli print.

Finally, I had some printed Journal Cards in my VLS stash, so I glued two sets back to back and ran around the edges in black ink. I added some of the Bow Bee and Friends elements.

* Cat Lovers Hop: Kitty Planner Clip & Bookmark

Hello Everyone!

The Cat Lovers Blog Hop is taking place over at Her Peaceful Garden.

Janis has been super-busy organising the event and has many fabulous sponsors. I hope you'll come on over and take a look and maybe even play along!

I'm on holiday this week, so all of my posts have been scheduled. Hopefully I'll be able to snag some free wi-fi when we're out and about and off the ship, so I'll do my best to visit everyone! If I can't, then I promise to catch up with all the lovely cat ladies when I get home!

A couple of days ago I showed a card that I made with Vera Lane Studio Cats on the Block. Today I have a planner clip or bookmark made from the same images:

These are super easy and quick to make. Print out 2 images making sure that one of them is flipped, so that they will match when you place them back to back. Colour the images, add some Glossy Accents to their eyes and to the jewels in the crown. Fussy cut around the image.  I colour the back edges of the images as well, so that if they don't match up perfectly, it doesn't show too much! Next add the jumbo paperclip - I use double sided tape and glue, or silicone glue. Keep the edges pressed together until the glue sets a little.

Thanks for stopping by today.
I'd very much like it if you would become a 'follower'!

Here's my card:

I used Vera Lane Studio digital images for this card. The cats are from a set called Cats on the Block. I love the quirkiness of the images! I coloured them with marker pens and decided to put them in a VLS Fun Frame, so it looks as if they've been photographed. I added some stars and the word 'Love'.

* Vera Lane Studio: Skullies!

Hello everyone!

I hope you're enjoying October so far.
There is so much going on in blogland and not enough time to follow it all!

Here at Vera Lane Studio, we are having a month of mischievous Halloween fun and we are collaborating with the lovely Serena Bee. Please pop over to her blog and shop, Papercakes, to see her super-cute Halloween makes.

Today I have a set of ATCs to share. Each ATC features one of the  Skullies made into a paperclip to keep your papers and planners in order, or it could be used as a bookmark.

The Skullies digital set contains 10 different skulls and 2 hats - a super bundle that is oh-so versatile!
You will need 2 of each image to create a paperclip. One image will need to be reversed, which is very easy to do (I have a little video tutorial here).  I coloured the images with markers, adding Posca white pen and glitter for some detail. The two sides were glued together, sandwiching the jumbo paperclip - I used silicone glue for this.
The ATC backgrounds are made from Serena's October Nights paper. The edges were inked in black and some silver trim was added. The Alpha stickers were adhered, then the paperclip attached with some black glitter tape. Green gems were placed in the centre of some of the webs.
I decided to put the ATCs on small cards again made with Serena's paper, so that I could send them along with Happy Mail.

BOO!

EEK!

* Vera Lane Studio: Girls on the Block Planner Clips and Bookmarks

Hello Crafty Friends!

I have a second Vera Lane Studio post today!

This time I made some jumbo paper clips, suitable for a planner, and some bookmarks using the Girls on the Block digital set.

These girls are so much fun and very versatile...imagine them in one of the Vera Lane windows...

So, these digis come with instructions. They are super easy to colour and fussy cut - notice the thick black borders. There is no need to flip the images so that you have a front and back, as this is already done for you ... just size them to suit your needs and print!

Once coloured and cut, I ran a black marker pen around the edge of the back side of each digital, so if my cutting was a bit wonky, the black would camouflage this.

To assemble, I simply used a small piece of double sided tape to adhere the paperclip or bookmark, then applied glue sparingly, making sure to go right to the edges of the digis, and stuck them together. My bookmarks are made from gelli printed card, the pink one has some holographic embossing. I rounded the corners and inked the edges.

I hope you'll come along and play on Vera Lane. It's such a friendly, fun place to be!
