Wasting Time

Hello

The theme at Lost Coast Portal to Creativity this month is For The Men.

Like many, I find masculine cards so difficult to create, however, it's a while since I entered a Lost Coast challenge, so I thought I would give it a go.

Here is the card I made:

I used the Monkey with Banjo stamp from Carmen's Veranda. I made a stencilled background with a layering stencil called 'Modern Weave' from Alex Syberia Designs and Oxide inks. I grounded the monkey on washi tape and added a Lawn Fawn 'Happy Birthday' sentiment and a 'Wasting Time' sentiment strip.

That's all for now.

Thanks for stopping by today.

xoxo

Gecko Galz: Gentlemanly

Hello

The theme this month at the Gecko Galz blog is Dapper Gentlemen.

As always, we also have the monthly Image Challenge, the monthly Christmas Image Challenge, the monthly Stamp Challenge, an ATC challenge, a Steampunk challenge and a Gothic Challenge on the blog, as well as 4 Facebook challenges. These can be accessed by the tabs at the top of the main blog page.
And, new for this year, we have a new challenge, the quarterly challenge.. This quarter has just started and the challenge is to create an altered mason jar.
We hope you can find some time to join in the fun.

The winner of the Customer challenge will get a $25 Gecko Galz Etsy Store voucher and the runner up a $12 voucher. There are plenty of free Gecko Galz images if you don't already own any. Each blog post has a free image to collect and, if you sign up for the monthly newsletter, there is the chance to claim a free collage set each month.  Also if you make any purchase of $2 or more you receive a free image.
***

I made a set of square cards:

I used Dapper Dan ATCs for the background - resizing them to fit these 5 x 5 inch card bases. Great Journeys collage sheet provided my image backgrounds and the fussy cut gents are from Mad about Men and Sharp Dressed Man. The image is on foam tape for some dimension and the embellishment takes the form of fabric circle trim.
***
And a set of A6 cards:

These simple cards let the papers and images do the talking.
I used Wanderlust ATCs and Oxidation ATCs for the backgrounds - again resizing them to fit the card bases. The images are masculine in nature and are from the 'Steam Power' collage sheet.. The only embellishment I added was some gold mesh trim under diagonally opposite corners.

***

I also made an altered notebook which I posted about here.

I used a background from Steam Power and a fussy cut gent from Mad About Men

That's all for now!
I hope you'll join our Dapper Gentlemen challenge where the winner will get a $25 shopping spree at the Gecko Galz shop.

The only rule is that you must use at least one Gecko Galz product (this can be one of the freebies or, of course, you can buy at the Etsy store!) Also if you sign up for the Gecko Galz newsletter, you'll be able to claim a free collage sheet each month.

Dashing Crow Green

Hello

Dashing Crow is making another appearance today. I love this steampunk bird and think he makes a super masculine card - something I usually struggle with.

The crow was stamped in Versafine Nocturne onto white card and fussy cut. He was also stamped onto a piece of inked A6 card and a mask made, so that I could stamp and heat emboss the background with #280 Enumerated from AALL & Create..  White paint splatters were applied over the background.

The crow was popped on foam tape and a sentiment banner made.  The Happy Birthday sentiment is from #405 Doodled Numbers.

All stamps are from AALL & Create.

That's all for now.

I'd like to play along in these challenges:

* Gecko Galz: Dapper Men and Sassy Ladies

Hello!

Today it's my DT day at Gecko Galz

Before I get on with my projects, were you one of the lucky winners of the awesome shopping spree give aways for our 8th Birthday celebrations?
You can check here on the Gecko Galz blog and on individual DT blogs - mine is here.

For this month's DT projects I've made a pair of female cards and a pair of masculine cards.

Here they are:

***
Firstly, for the female cards I used one of my new favourite Gecko Galz collage sheets called Funky Card Toppers

I love the vintage images, the colour scheme and the slightly snarky comments. All of the images on this collage sheet are fabulous and would make a super little gift if wrapped in cellophane or placed in a box. I had plans to do this, but sadly time ran away ...

I teamed two of the images with teal coloured patterned paper from the First Class Passage paper pack and tangerine paper from the Smitten paper pack. I used layers and mats, with black inked edges, and added a side banner with hand made, die cut flowers and leaves.

The masculine cards use two images from the Mad About Men collage sheet and they are teamed with patterned paper made by enlarging two ATCs from the Time Flies ATC set.
The first is a Dapper Flapper man to fit in with this month's challenge theme:

He has some gold sequin trim behind his image mat and a die cut, pierced, kraft banner, backed with black card, with Alpha Stickers to spell out 'Hello'.

My second masculine card has black and antique gold card as mats and layers and beneath the image is some black lacy trim. The die cut Happy Birthday was cut twice, once with black card and once with kraft card, so that two sentiments were made at the same time

* Colour Crazy Challenge: Super Dad

Hello!

I am delighted to be back as a Guest DT on the Colour Crazy Challenge blog for a further three months.

The challenge is always Anything Goes, but of course your card must feature some colouring: use any medium you wish. This week the fantastic Bugaboo Stamps is the sponsor.

I was lucky to receive a digi stamp to work with and I chose Super Dad. Here is my card:

My image was die cut and coloured with Copic markers. I replaced the die so that I could blend ink onto the stamp background - I used Memento Danube Blue and, on the edges, Nautical Blue. I love how keeping the die in place creates a crisp white border.
The background is two sheets of design paper, die cut with Sue Wilson Double Stitched Squares. I alternated the squares and attached them to a 6 x 6 cm card blank. I also die cut two banners which I attached on foam for dimension. The image was placed on top of the banners. I added a printed sentiment using the Baby Powder font from Vera Lane Studio. It was also cut with a stitched rectangle die and inked with blue to match the rest of the card. A red felt heart was attached to the top left hand corner.

Many thanks to Bugaboo Stamps for sponsoring this challenge.

I hope you'll find time to share your projects at the Colour Crazy Challenge

That's all from me for today!

xoxo

* Vera Lane Studio: Happy Birthday, Mr Poe!

Hello!

Did you know that this Friday is Edgar Allan Poe's birthday?
He would be 209 years old were he still alive. Alas, the poor man died at the age of just 40, but not before he left his literary mark on the world. He is best known for his macabre short stories and, of course, for his poems, especially The Raven.

Here on Vera Lane Studio, we pay tribute to Poe with a new digi set. Edgar Allan Poe comes with a raven, a lantern and some pretty awesome quotes!

I made a birthday card and a journal spread. Here's my card:

I find masculine cards very tricky to make. However I think Mr Poe looks like a distinguished, elderly gentleman and seeing that these days I know a few 'more mature' men, this might be a handy image for some upcoming birthday cards.

I coloured the image with markers, fussy cut him and popped him on a patterned paper background with some washi tape to ground him. I edged the papers and the kraft card itself with bronze alchemy wax to give it a more luxurious feel.

The Happy Birthday sentiment is from Sentiments by Vera Lane Studio and I typed and printed 'old chap', which is not meant to be derogatory, but rather a term of endearment! The sentiment was cut into strips, inked with Vintage Photo and sponged with bronze wax.

Here is the journal spread I made in my mini art journal. This, I think, is the Poe we are more familiar with:

I used a headstone (meant to be Lenore's) from Zombie Accessories as well as the images from Edgar Allan to create my journal spread. The images are coloured with Copics and the background made with Dylusion Spray inks, acrylic paint, modelling paste, stencils and stamps. Some cheesecloth and washi tape were added for texture and interest.

I wanted to capture the descent into madness of the The Raven's narrator as he talks to the raven and gets just the one word, Nevermore, in reply time after time. Or maybe the grave could be Edgar Allan's ..... after all, there is no name engraved!

I hope you'll come along and play on Vera Lane. It's such a friendly, fun place to be!

You'll find us HERE on Facebook in a closed group.
There's always tons of fabulous inspiration and eye candy!
I guarantee, you'll get a very warm welcome!

Thanks for stopping by today.
xoxo
