Distance: The Extra Mile

Hello

The challenge this week at the Sunday Postcard is Distance.

Here is my digital postcard:

How happy is this March Hare? He's from a set of four available at the Conjurer of Dreams Etsy store. I removed his background and placed him upon an image of a winding road created in Image Creator. I found the road sign via an internet search and added some borders from Digital Scrapbook.com to frame it. I typed the sentiment.

Thanks for stopping by today.

* Vera Lane Studio: February's Heart

 Hello

It's Monday and my Vera Lane Studio DT day.

(Just so that you know, I am taking a short break from Vera Lane Studio DT duties during February).

Today I'm using a newish digi set called February's Heart. It has the most adorable little girl and her puppy dog along with a flower and six sentiments.

Here is what I made:

I went with a CAS style this week. The lovely characters are coloured with Copic markers and fussy cut. They are on a gelli print background made with a mini gelli plate and PaperArtsy Fresco Chalk paints along with one of Janet's stencils from AALL & Create (#96 Dandelion Field). I added a hand drawn doodle border and matted it onto a painted piece of card, then popped it on a 5 inch card base..

That's all for now.

I hope you'll come along and play on Vera Lane. It's such a friendly, fun place to be!

Here's all the info you need:

Rise and Shine?

 Hello

The challenge this week at the Sunday Postcard is Rise and Shine.

Here is my digital postcard:

I adore Pop Art so I had a play with Image Creator and it produced this sunrise and coffee cup background based on my description.. I added a border from Digital Scrapbook.com, a frame from PicMonkey and the tired woman from Adobe Stock.

Then I had an idea ... I have a goofy photo of myself taken with a Pop Art style filter - what if I use that?
Here was the result :)

Thanks for stopping by today.

* Path of Positivity: The Magic of New Beginnings

Hello

Welcome to the midway January post for the Path of Positivity Challenge..

Our challenge is always Anything Goes with an optional theme. We have decided that our overall theme for 2024 will be THE POWER OF WORDS.

This month's option is to design a project that is inspired by quotes about New Beginnings.

Here are the quotes chosen for this month::

“Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365-page book. Write a good one."
— Brad Paisley

“New month, new intentions, new goals, new love, new light, and new beginnings.”
— April Mae Monterrosa

"The magic in new beginnings is the most powerful of them all."
 — Josiyah Martin

"New Year's Day. A fresh start. A new chapter waiting to be written."
 — Sarah Ban Breathnach

“Every moment is a fresh beginning.”
— T.S. Eliot

Honours and Prizes include:

  • $6 worth of images from Scribbles Designs, for a person chosen in a random draw based on all qualifying entrants.
  • A badge for the following honours: Top PickVoter's ChoiceMost InspirationalRandom WinnerDT Delight.

Here is my midway DT project.

I decided to use one of the new beginning quotes and add some stamped images.

I made a stencilled background using dye based inks and added white splatters. I darkened the edges with Oxide inks and Versafine Nocturn ink. The lovely stamps are from Rubber Dance (Loose Florals 1 and Textiured Birds). I coloured them with Inktense watercolour pencils. They are fussy cut leaving a thin border and are loosely attached to the stencilled background, so that there is some dimension and movement. The sentiment was typed and cut into strips.

White paint splatters were applied to the coloured stamps and Glossy Accents added to the flower centres and to the bird's eye.

***
That's all for now.
We would love to see your creations!
Just make sure that your entry is positive, inspirational, motivational or encouraging in some way!

Many thanks to Scribbles Designs for sponsoring the challenge.

I'll be back with a another Path of Positivity project in a couple of weeks time.

Thanks for stopping by today!

* Vera Lane Studios: Celeste

 Hello

It's Monday and my Vera Lane Studio DT day.

Today we have a new digi set in the Etsy store. It is Celeste - a beautiful girl and her puppy dog gazing up to the stars. She has a choice of three sentiments.

Here is what I made:

I coloured the digi stamps with Copic markers and fussy cut them. The background was made with Distress Ink blending. I used a piece of torn paper to mask off the ground and coloured the sky, trying for a northern lights effect. White paint spatters replicate stars in the night sky. When dry, the sky was masked and the ground coloured with inks. I added some stamping in black to represent foliage silhouettes, then adhered the girl, grass and starts. The sentiment was cut into strips.

That's all for now.

I hope you'll come along and play on Vera Lane. It's such a friendly, fun place to be!

Blue Bird

Hello

The challenge this week at the Sunday Postcard is Blue Bird.

Here is my digital postcard:

The background, borders and masks are from Digital Scrapbook.com. The bluebird is from a Gecko Galz collage sheet called Blue Bird of Happiness. The rainbows are from Vera Lane Studio's ROYGBIV digi set and the sentiment was found on the internet. I assembled my layers in PicMonkey.

* Vera Lane Studio: Hello Winter

 Hello

It's Monday and my Vera Lane Studio DT day.

I made a circular card this week with a newish set called January's Hat. It's a beautiful set featuring a cute girl in her winter coat and a polar bear. There are two hats, a bird and three sentiments.

Here is my card:

The background was heat embossed and then coloured with Distress Oxides (Cracked Pistachio and Broken China) spritzed with water and transferred from an acetate sheet onto the embossed background. White paint splatters were added along with the fussy cut, Copic coloured characters. Janet's wash tape grounds the characters.

That's all for now.

I hope you'll come along and play on Vera Lane. It's such a friendly, fun place to be!

Gears We Never Use

Hello

At Our MidWeek Muse the theme is Steampunk.

Here is my digital offering:

I used a gorgeous Steampunk Frame and Steampunk Wild Animal from Conjurer of Dreams. I had to remove the backgrounds and then placed them onto background paper. I used border masks, and a couple of gold-ish embellishments from Digital Scrapbook.com. The sentiment was one that I found from a Google search and is by Kirsten Hyde - I simply typed it and popped into a graphic circle background.
I use PicMonkey to create my collages.

Thanks for stopping by today.

* Winter Cats

Hello

One of my Facebook buddies has an Etsy store where she sells handmade bookmarks, tags and cards and more recently she has added some digital collages for us to download, print and create our own magic. Her store is Wendylynn's Paper Whims. I do hope you'll take a look. The printables are 50% off at the moment.

I spotted these gorgeous Winter Cats in the style of Van Gogh.  Now, cats and Van Gogh are two passions of mine, so I knew I had to purchase.

I downloaded them after midnight and I couldn't wait to get printing, cutting and glueing, so I made a couple of digital collages just to see the artwork in context. I hope you like what I made:

I gave this one a mixed media background which resembles a snowy winter's day. I added a gold wreath motive behind the image and some gold splatters, along with lavender stars. I framed with black and gold on both the image and the background, and I found a Van Gogh quote to tuck beneath the image and the word 'Shine'. A metallic embellishment and some wonky, gold stitches finish off the piece.

***

Again I chose a mixed media background representing dark, winter sky. I used a transparent mask to add more detail and texture to the background, along with gold splatters and sparkly blue snowflakes. The pine cluster embellishment is from a set by Raspberry Road. The gold, diamond-shaped studs were arranged as a frame along with some black and white detail. To finish, I tucked a wintry sentiment beneath the cluster.

***

Next, I added both cats (fussy cut away from their backdrops)) to a wintry background:

Thank you so much for looking.

I blended Oxide inks onto white card, then stencilled over with red inks and some clear Versamark ink. I added gold embossing powders and heated to give the distressed heart background. I also added gold splatters. The image was mounted onto gold card and some die cut foliage in kraft and gold was added along with die cut florals. The Love sentiment is from the *****set.
