ATC: Girly

The theme this week (#199) at Wicked Wednesday is Girly. 

I'm also entering this into Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge where the theme is 'Make your own Background"

Background: white card with script stamped in clear embossing ink. When dry, Dylusions ink in Bubblegum Pink and Pure Sunshine were sprayed and wiped over with a baby wipe. Card edged in Jet Black Ranger Archival ink.

Image: I used a Sherri Baldy 'My Besties' digi stamp and coloured her with Spectrum Noir markers.T he image was fussy cut and mounted on pop dots.

Washi tape was applied to the bottom of the card for the girl to stand upon. Crystal gems were added to one side edge and the words 'sweet girl' from Tim Holtz's ChitChat stickers finished it off.

Princess and Frog

I absolutely love the quirky Vera Lane Studio characters.


The digi set I used for this card is the Whimsical Princess and Frog set, and it was perfect for the following challenges:

DL Art Thankful Thursday Challenge #175 Frogs or/and use the colour green
Digi Choosday Crafting Challenge Week 8 The Colour Green and/or Nature
Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Take a Leap into the Unknown (the background was a new technique for me to try)

Background: Card was first coated in gesso. When dry, Memento inks in Dandelion, Bamboo Leaves and Danube Blue were applied with ink dusters to give an ombre effect. Once the card was completely inked, a stencil (Balzer designs 'Mini Onion Skin') was placed on top and further ink applied. This gave a subtle patterned background. The technique is explained on this video by Papertrey Ink.

Images: The Whimsical Princess and Frog were coloured with Spectrum Noir Alcohol markers (I'm still learning how to colour and blend!).  Glitter was added to the wand and necklace on the girl.

Lacy tape was applied to the inside edge of the card.

The sentiment came as part of the digi set.

Snippets: Watercolour card

Today I made this simple card using a small piece of watercolour paper.

I'd like to enter this at Pixies Snippets Playground for week 218

 

Watercolour paper was stamped and heat embossed with a Hedgehog and Pots Dinkie stamp from LC Designs. Watercolour pencils were used with a water brush to colour the stamped image. The finished piece was mounted on black card, which in turn was mounted onto card passed through a flower-design embossing folder. All was attached with foam strips to a shop-bought greeting card base and the sentiment stamped and mounted. Gel stickers were added.

ATC: Teal, Red and Grey

This week's ATC challenge at Wicked Wednesday is a colour challenge.

I love this colour combination, but it took me ages to decide what to do. 
Here is what I finally came up with:

Background: modelling paste through Dylusions 'Luscious Leaves' stencil; acrylic paint in ultramarine and viridian hue, applied with baby wipes; card edged in Ranger jet black ink. Die cut foliage for seaweed, coloured in a puddle of Gray Flannel Memento ink and water. Natural fibres.

Image: Mermaid digi stamp by Prettygraphikdesign, coloured with Spetrum Noir markers. Mermaid's lower body covered in sequins; fins and tail were overdabbed with iridescent medium. Image attached to background with foam dots.

Let's Play: Show neglected art supplies some love.

Caroline Dube at A Colorful Journey has a new monthly challenge called Let's Play.  February's challenge is to show some neglected art supplies some love and see what you can create.

I've had a chipboard wall plaque and some unused crackle glaze for a long, long time and so decided it was time to try to create something with them.  Here is what I made:

Chipboard plaque: first coated with gesso, then modelling paste applied through a Kaisercraft stencil  called 'Damask'. Painted with pale grey acrylic paint, then Inka Gold 'Rose Quartz' wax added to  bring out the relief of the design.

'Home' word: This chipboard piece was a gift from a friend in a swap - her clever husband cuts the pieces himself.  It was painted white, crackle glaze applied, then, when that was dry, lush pink paint applied on top which cracked to give this finish. Since this was the first time I've used crackle glaze, I was quite pleased with the result :)  The word's edges were inked in Ranger  jet black archival ink.

Flower cluster: Flowers made from white card, die cut with Spellbinders 'Spiral Blossom One' die and edges inked with Prima Chalk Edger in Old Rose. Leaves also die cut from Spellbinders 'Foliage' dies  and coloured with Tim Holtz distress inks (Crushed Olive and Vintage Photo) and water, then shaped. Arranged with pearl stamen accents and shop bought cream roses.

Heart, butterfly and bird: all are chipboard pieces, either painted, inked or waxed and with edges inked. Tiny black crystal for bird's eye.

Tag: Animals and Insects

So... I've seen some blogs where a project is entered for several challenges. I thought I might try this for a change today.

Here's the tag I made using snippets of left over card.

Tag background: Balzer Designs 'stick flowers' stencil, Inkylicious ink dusters, Memento inks. When the background was inked, I splashed some water, let it sit, then dabbed it up with tissue to create the water stain effect. I inked the reverse of the stencil, sprayed with water, then stamped and brayered it onto the non-inked part of the background. 

Images: These Inkilicious Twinchie bee stamps (I think these are now discontinued) were heat embossed with Black Sparkle powder onto scraps of white card.  Bee body was coloured with watercolour pencils, and wings with crystal glitter. They were fussy cut and attached to tag with pop dots.

Flower: Prima flowers with inked edges and black crystal gem. Leaves cut from white card with Spellbinders Foliage dies, coloured with distress ink and shaped. Pearl stamen and natural fibres attached.

The back of the tag was covered in book paper, aged with distress ink and stamped with a flourish stamp from Inkylicious Elements 1 set.

ATC: Baby, it's cold outside

Whoo-hoo!  I was the winner last week on Wicked Wednesday's ATC Challenge. Thanks to Jenn and the design team.

... is the title for this week's Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge.  Here is my entry:

Card background: White card first heat embossed with stardust stamp and snowflake embossing powder for snow effect, then painted with ultramarine and violet watered down acrylic paint. Over stamped with fir trees and heat embossed with snowflake powder again.

Image:Winter Warmth digi stamp from Time for Tea Designs on Etsy, coloured with First Edition markers and watercolour pencils. Crystal glitter applied to muffs and bob on cap; glossy accents on wellington boots. Imaged attached on pop dots.
