* Merry Magpie

Hello!

I'm sharing a card I made for the Rubber Dance, November Colour Challenge today.

I used the Merry Magpie stamp set as well as a stem from the Doodle Borders 1 and a leafy stem from Doodle Flowers.

I used a mixed media plate to start the background. I dabbed on some Fossilised Amber Distress Ink and spritzed it with water, then gently pressed it down into the centre of the white card. When it was dry, I repeated with the ink that was left on the plate. I did this a few times until I was happy with the result. I used Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide to blend ink around the card edges, going slightly lighter as I reached right up to the amber circle. I then added splatters of water all over the background and blotted, to take some colour away.
I chose a leafy stem from the Doodle Borders 1 set, inked it with Hickory Smoke Distress Ink and stamped in short sections around the circle to separate the amber from the Seedless Preserves. I also added some stars to the whole background in Smoked Hickory.
The leafy Doodle Flowers was stamped all around the outside edge, first in black archival ink and then in Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide.
The sentiment was stamped directly onto the card background. Merry Magpie was stamped onto the card base and also onto white card to be fussy cut and popped on foam pads.
I added some Crystal Stickles to the stars - I love how this picks up the colour from beneath it and shimmers.

That's all from me today.
Thanks for stopping by today.

* Vera Lane Studio: Be Wise

Hello!

Happy Monday!

Today at Vera Lane Studio we have a new release called Be Wise
I made the following card:

I used a circle mask and with Emerald Isle Infusions powders, a little ColourCraft 'Sprinkle It' and a spritz or two of water created the background. Once dry, I stamped around the circle with an Inkylicious text stamp in Peeled Paint Distress Oxide and edged the card with Peeled Paint and Vintage Photo inks.
I coloured the images with Copic markers, adding a few white Posca pen marks as highlights. As I was arranging the images onto the background I felt that I needed something substantial to ground the images and I decided to use a tree stump from the Woodland Props set.
The tree stump was glued directly onto the background and the girl and owl were popped up on foam pads. The sentiment was cut into strips, inked around the edges and glued onto the background.
I matted my card onto kraft card and then onto a 6 x 6 inch card base.

* Gecko Galz: Christmas: Peace on Earth 2

Hello!

Today is my DT day at Gecko Galz.
I have a couple of cards to share, both with a Peace on Earth/Christmas theme. Our customer challenge is Peace on Earth and runs until the 29th November, so there is still some time to join in if you so wish.

Here is my first card:

I used an image from The Reason for the Season collage set and teamed it with beautiful patterned paper from the Victoria paper pack, along with some textured gold paper from my stash. The sentiment is from the Christmas Sayings stamp set and the edges were foiled with gold. Some gold lace, a golden die cut corner and a pretty teal ribbon bow were added as embellishments.

And this is the second card :

Vera Lane Studio: The Kiss

Hello!
Happy Monday!

For my DT day at Vera Lane Studio today I have made a card with The Kiss, a digital set that was released last week.

I decided to make my card into a holiday card by adding some mistletoe from the Season's Greetings digital set. The images were coloured with Copic markers and fussy cut.
The background is brayered Distress Oxides (Antique Linen, Scattered Straw and Fired Brick). Text is stamped on either side in Fired Brick and some mesh was stamped in Hickory Smoke. White, chalk paint was applied through a stencil and white paint was splattered one the entire background with a fan brush. The edges of the background were inked in black.
Some torn washi tape grounds the kissing couple who are popped on foam dots for dimension. The mistletoe, too, has foam pads beneath it.
The sentiment was cut into strips, inked in black and glued directly onto the background. A doodled border was drawn around the card edges.

* Artsystamper: Give Thanks

Hello!
Happy Monday!

Today sees the start of a new challenge at the new Artsystamper Challenge Blog. Each challenge runs for two weeks and starts on the first and third Monday of the month.
The theme for this challenge is Give Thanks
I hope that you can find time to join in the fun!

The winner will receive the stamp set of their choice from TheArtsystamperShop. Beverly Cole’s selections offer stamps and sentiments in each set as well as pre-colored images for easy, last minute cards. Why not take a moment and check out what she has in store!

I used the beautiful Sketched Spring Blossoms Digital Stamp Set for my two cards.

The first card is perhaps a more elegant design with matted layers, lace and ribbon.

The background is made by brayering Antique Linen and Worn Lipstick Distress Oxides onto 300 gsm smooth card, making the edges darker than the centre. To tone the pink down a little I added a small amount of Victorian Velvet around the edges. I watered down some white chalk paint and spattered them onto the backgrounds with a fan brush. I then added some script stamping along the side edges and inked all the edges in black archival ink.
The next part was a learning curve! I wanted to add some modelling paste through a stencil, but I wanted the paste to stay white, rather than pick up the inks. I applied Distress Glaze, then added the paste using a stencil. What I learned was that the paste does not stick permanently to the card - as it dried, and as I turned the card over, it began to fall off - it may be because I didn't wait long enough for the Glaze to dry or, it may be that the Glaze isn't the right surface for paste to stick to - the chemistry is all too much for me!
The beautiful blossom spray was coloured with Copic markers and fussy cut. I added a strip of ivory lace across the bottom portion of the background, then popped the blossoms on foam pads and adhered it to the background. I added a pink bow to the base of the blossom branch.
The sentiment was typed, printed, then die cut with a banner die; the fish tail was shortened to make it into a rectangle. The sentiment was also popped on foam pads.
The final stage was to mat the background, first onto black card and then onto pink card. All was adhered to a 6 x 6 inch white card.

My second card uses the same colours and background techniques, but is more modern or artsy.

The background was made in exactly the same way as above. The Copic coloured blossom was added to the centre on foam pads, with the sentiment, placed on foam pads, below. Three sequins add a little sparkle.

* Believe in the Magic

Hello!

Today I have a fairy card to share.
I made this card a while ago, but didn't get around to writing a blog post. So, today remedies that!

The fairy is a Lavinia stamp and the background and sentiment stamps are from Inkylicious.
The background is Distress Oxides along with silver and gold  Brilliance inks applied to the XL Splatter stamp from Inkylicious. The fairy is Freya and she is sprinkling fairy dust. She is heat embossed, along with the Believe in the Magic sentiment. Some Stickles Crystal glitter was applied in dots around the splatter marks and three clear sequins were added to the background. The edges of the card background are framed with silver ink.

Thanks for stopping by today.

* Vera Lane Studio: Wish and Dream Fairies

Hello!

Happy Monday!

Today for my Vera Lane Studio DT posts I have 2 cards, one featuring the Wish Fairy and one featuring the Dream Fairy.

Here is the Wish Fairy:

and here is Dream Fairy:

Both cards were made using the same background technique.
I took a piece of 300gsm white card, measuring 13.5 x 13.5 cm, for each background. I used a mixed media plate (circle 10cm) and brayered Distress Oxide ink over its surface. I then added some diluted brusho splatters and lightly spritzed over the plate with water. The plate was then turned over and stamped into the centre of the card and left in place for a minute or so, so that the inks could absorb into the card. The edges of the card were then inked with Distress oxides and water droplets added to bleach out some colour. I doodled around the circle edge and the outside edge of the background.
Inside the circle, I stamped some text in Hickory Smoke DO, using scrap paper to mask off the edge of the circle. Using a torn strip of paper I inked a mound of earth for the fairies to stand upon.
The fairies were coloured with Copic markers and Stickles Diamond glitter was added to their wings. Some dots of glitter were also added to the background. The fairies were popped on foam tape and adhered to the circles.

Wish Fairy's background has Twisted Citron DO and splatters of purple liquid Brusho. Stamping is in Hickory Smoke DO and grounding in Peeled Paint, shadow with Hickory Smoke and Faded Jeans DO. Edges of the card have blended Twisted Citron and Hickory Smoke DO with water splatters.

Dream Fairy's background has Peacock Feathers DO and splatters of orange liquid Brusho. Text stamping is in Hickory Smoke DO and grounding in Peeled Paint, shadow with Hickory Smoke and Faded Jeans DO. Edges of the card have blended Peacock Feathers and Hickory Smoke DO with water splatters.
