* Vera Lane Studio: Grow a Happy Life

Hello!

I have a Vera Lane Studio project to share.
This time I have an oldie digi set called Grow a Happy Life - I love that thought!

Here is a 5 x 5 page I made. Originally it was going to be a card, but I have so many at the moment that I decided to add her to this little journal. The good thing is if I'm ever short of a card front I can cut this from the album and glue to a card base:

I used design paper for the background. I inked the edges with Vintage Photo and added strips of green washi tape for the ground. The digs were coloured with bright spring coloured Copics and a little Derwent Inktense, fussy cut and arranged on the page. I added a sun from the Sunshine collage sheet and toned the yellow colour down a little with a white pastel crayon. I decided to die cut the sentiment and attached it with a brad (not used one of those for years!) Next I inked the cut edge of the design paper in black and matted the scene onto pink card, then attached it to the kraft card in my journal. Some sequins were added with tiny flat back pearls in the centre and I coloured some mulberry flowers with distress oxides.

She's such a quirky girl - I love her!

* Vera Lane Studio: Warm and Cosy

Hello!

What's the weather like where you live?
This last week in the UK has been a real mixed bag. We've had snow, rain and now strong winds.

At Vera Lane Studio, Janet released a new digi set last week called Warm and Cosy. It features two sweet girls in their winter coats and two sentiments.

Here is a card I made:

I kept this one simple. I printed the digi larger than usual and coloured her with Copic markers, adding some white highlights with a Posca paint pen. The background is Distress Oxides stamped with an acrylic block. I trimmed the background leaving a white border and mounted it onto a home made blue card base.
A strip of my favourite polka dot washi tape was used to ground my girl and she was popped on foam pads for dimension. The sentiment was cut into strips, inked around the edges and glued directly onto the background.

Pop over to the VLS Etsy shop to see the wonderful collection of quirky characters on sale. Warm and Cosy can be found by clicking on the link below:

I hope you'll come along and play on Vera Lane.

* Textured Houses

Hello!

Today I have been playing with rubber stamps and ink again. I made this card:

I was inspired by a challenge at the Rubber Dance Facebook group:

My card actually fits both challenges, I think - I used the colour palette and my new Textured Houses stamps.

I used a selection of Distress Oxides both for the background and to add colour to the houses. The background was made using an acrylic stamping block. I applied the Oxides to the block making sure not to overlap the inks. The ink was spritzed with water and then used as a stamp. I think I put a little too much water on the ink, but liked the effect it gave.  Once dry, I splattered the background with white and black diluted paint.
The house row was stamped twice onto watercolour paper and heat embossed in silver. I used the same palette of Distress Oxides as watercolours to paint the houses. The first house row was left whole, but the second row was cut into two sections.
I glued the top houses directly onto the background; the middle row has foam pads at the top to give it some dimension and the bottom row is fully mounted on foam pads. The dimension shows a little better here:

I decided to add silver heat embossed stars and a sentiment from Tim Holtz's Small Talk pad. The background was mounted onto shimmery midnight blue card and then onto the blank card base.

Here you can see the colours of oxides I used:

That's all for today!

* Umbrella Lady

Hello!

Today I have an inky card to share.

The stamp reminds me so much of Mary Poppins, but she is called Silhouette Lady with Umbrella and is from Lost Coast Designs. I made her background by applying Distress Oxides (Fossilised Amber, Spiced Pumpkin and Candied Apple) with a blending tool, then stencilling over in the same shades and darkening them slightly with Black Soot. I also blended Black Soot around the edges to create a darker frame and stamped some Bare Branches and three tiny bird silhouettes by Inkylicious. Once I was happy with the background I used my stamping platform to stamp the Umbrella Lady in black Archival ink. I added a Tim Holtz Small Talk sticker, which I cut into strips, as my sentiment.

That's all for today!

Thanks for stopping by.

* Gecko Galz: Love

Hello!

Today is my feature day for Gecko Galz.
At the Gecko Galz blog our January Customer Challenge is in full swing and the theme is Love Stories. We would love for you to play along. All that you need to do is create a project using just one Gecko Galz product (there are lots of free digi stamps on the blog).

Here is a card that I made:

I used an image from the True Loves Kiss collage sheet and die cut it with a pierced circle. I added it on top of a fancy circle die cut and used it as a topper. The paper is from my stash and I inked the edges with Vintage Photo. I made some paper flowers by die cutting some of the patterned paper. Again I inked the edges to give them a little more definition and I added some tiny flat back pearls to the flower centres. I also die cut some foliage to go with the flowers. I heat embossed a small wooden heart and the word love with some white sparkle powder.
I think this card would be good as a Valentine's card or as an anniversary or engagement card. There are lots of lovely vintage images on the collage sheet and you can find it by clicking on the link below:

True Loves Kiss

My customer challenge inspiration project below, using another image from True Loves Kiss, was posted on the 1st January and you can see it here. The pink papers I used are from the Heart to Heart Mini Paper Pack.

* Vera Lane Studio: Hermione

Hello!

Take a look at who's come to Vera Lane Studio! It's Hermione come to join her friend Harry!

Hermione comes with her cat, Crookshanks, and three sentiments.

Here is the art journal page I made:

She's a little cutie! I coloured Hermione and Crookshanks with Copics. They both have Glossy Accent eyes and white Posca pen highlights. They are fussy cut and popped on foam pads onto the background with a torn strip of wash tape to ground them.
The background was made with Gelatos and Neocolor crayons which I blended with my finger. I added some gold acrylic paint very thinly, again with my finger. In the middle of the page I applied modelling paste through a brick wall stencil. I gave the "bricks" a wash of distress oxides to colour them and added brick stamping in Vintage Photo around the edges. The edge of the page was darkened with black Neocolor and blended in. I finally spritzed the page with iridescent gold Glimmer Mist.

Hermione's page is part of a double spread with Harry:

* Vera Lane Studio: All Heart

Hello!

Today is my DT day for Vera Lane Studio and I decided to make a Valentine card with the All Heart digi set. This set comes with two black outline digis for you to colour, a pre-coloured digi ready to use for collage or card making and a sentiment.

Here is my card:

I used a gelli print as the base for my background. It was a secondary print with splashes of red and gold and plenty of white space. I cut it to size (12.5 x 12.5 cm) and inked around the edges with Fired Brick Distress Oxide to add a frame element. I then added some stamping along the edges using Black Soot Distress Oxide. Next I added some texture paste through a tiny dots stencil and, when this was dry, I used my finger to spread some Gold Sparkle Medium around the edges of the background and also on top of the texture paste.

I coloured the girl with Copics and gave her some white highlights and glittery eyelids. I fussy cut her and popped her on foam pads, then placed her on top of a strip of washi. The sentiment was cut into strips, edged in Black Soot and adhered to the background.

I decided to mat my background onto black paper as this made the bright colours pop even more. Once this was completed everything was attached to a blank white card.

I hope you'll come along and play on Vera Lane.

* Vera Lane Studio: Potter

Hello!

Today at Vera Lane Studio we have a new release.
It's Potter! And it's Harry ... and ... he's so adorable with his owl, Hedwig!

I made a journal page:

I'm not giving anything away, but you're only seeing half of my page!!
I coloured Harry and Hedwig with Copics and added some white highlights. I gave Harry's spectacles some Glossy Accent lenses and Hedwig has Glossy accent eyes. I fussy cut them and added some foam tape to the back, so they would stand out from the background.
I next spritzed the page with iridescent gold Glimmer Mist.
Harry was popped onto the page and some sequin stars placed around his wand. One of the sentiments was cut into strips and adhered to the page, then, when dry, outlined in a scribbly way with a black fine liner pen. The white sentiment looked quite stark on the page, so I used a blending sponge to add a little colour.
