* AALL & Create: Hot Air Ballon & Galleon Sailing Ship Mini Journal

Hello!

This week for my AALL & Create guest spot, I made a mini journal. The focal images are from the beautiful #319 Magnify It stamp set by Bipasha.

The hot air balloon is the front cover and the galleon sailing ship is on the back cover:

I used quite a few stamps to create the cover backgrounds and the inside pages. I have a photo step by step tutorial:

1. Paperartsy Fresco paints in Mermaid and Inky Pool were applied to white card with a brush and baby wipes. Texture paste was added through part of the #92 Swallowtail stencil.
2. White Fresco paint was added with a baby wipe to lighten up the background a little.
3. The focal image was stamped and Stamp # 336 Bold Alphas was stamped around the edges in Versafine Clair Warm Breeze.

4. The sentiment from the hot air balloon stamp was heat embossed in black and splodges from stamp #362 Splodge were heat embossed in white.
5. Several more hot air balloons were stamped.
6. The balloon parts were fussy cut ready to be glued in place and layered.

7. The #262 Mesh stamp was heat embossed in gold around the edges of the cover.
8. The balloon parts were assembled and some added to foam tape to give dimension.
9. The binoculars were fussy cut twice and glued together. Gold wax was applied to the stencilled texture paste sun and a piece of the #14 Cell die was used to frame the bottom left corner.

10. The back cover was made in the same way as the front but this time using the galleon sailing ship.
11. The inside of the book is made from painted and stamped white card. Stamps used were # 364 Intersecting Circles, # 262 Mesh and #338 Background Noise.
12. Sentiments were added to each page using Tracy's stamp sets #164 Flourish, #199 Ecclectic Stems,  #213 Flourishing Vase and Olga's #273 Unfurling Petals.

The book was then assembled with each page having tuck spots, flaps or tags. The front and back covers were made from kraft card with the image panels glued on top. Ribbon was used as a closure.

Here is the front cover in close up. Can you see the balloon is dimensional, made up of layers that have foam tape to help shape them? I was pleased with the Swallowtail stencilled sun detail.

Here is the back cover. The ship and sails are dimensional too, the sails are billowing in the wind. I added some Tim Holtz stars which I heat embossed with gold powder.

The inside of the journal is made of painted pages with stamping around the edges and lovely, inspiring sentiments.

  2. What a fab journal for our challenge-images and sentiment match the challenge perfectly! love seeing how you created that background-all the steps so detailed and building up a great grunge to it-love the touches of gold. The images are quite vintage looking to me. A wonderful example for being 'adventurous'!! Thanks for joining Time Out x

  7. This is truly jaw dropping gorgeous, Carole. You not only stamp well, you do it in 3-D! Both covers are incredible, but the texture doesn't stop there. You have created pages that are stunning, too. I am incredibly impressed. This book is going to be something to cherish for years to come.
