Vera Lane Studio: Catch the Rainbow

Hello

Today is my Vera Lane Studio DT day.
I used a cute digi set released a few weeks ago, called Catch the Rainbow, for my card.

Aren't they sweetest pair.
I coloured the digi stamps with Copic markers. The image background is a mop-up page from stamping with a stencil. I added some extra stencilling using an AALL & Create stencil and plenty of white paint splatters. AALL & Create stamping using Janet's Background Noise was added around the edges. The little squishes are popped onto  a black and white border for grounding.
The frame is a stamped stencil smooshed over with various shades of blue Distress Oxides.

That's all for now.

I hope you'll come along and play on Vera Lane. It's such a friendly, fun place to be!

Gecko Galz: Feathered Friends

Hello

Spring most definitely is in the air and we have our new customer challenge over at the Gecko Galz blog.
The theme this month is Feathered Friends.

As always, we also have the monthly Image Challenge, the monthly Christmas Image Challenge, the monthly Stamp Challenge, an ATC challenge, a Steampunk challenge and a Gothic Challenge on the blog, as well as 4 Facebook challenges. These can be accessed by the tabs at the top of the main blog page.
And, new for this year, we have a quarterly challenge. This time the challenge is to make an altered canvas.
We hope you can find some time to join in the fun.

The winner of the Customer challenge will get a $25 Gecko Galz Etsy Store voucher and the runner up a $12 voucher. There are plenty of free Gecko Galz images if you don't already own any. Each blog post has a free image to collect and, if you sign up for the monthly newsletter, there is the chance to claim a free collage set each month.  Also if you make any purchase of $2 or more you receive a free image.

For my DT projects I made a collage card and a couple of simple journal pages.

Firstly, here is my collage card:

I started with a tissue paper layer and added torn book pages and ephemera from the Postage set. I tied it all together by inking the edges in Vintage Photo ink and applying crackle paste through a stencil over random areas. The birds are from Ephemera Romance (small blue bird with crown), Little Birds (bird in flight) and Garden Botanica (blue tit and nest) paper pack.  The flowers around the edges were cut from an image from Little Birds.
I added some stamping in black to fill some spaces.
I matted the collage onto black card and popped it onto a stencil stamped background made with Distress Oxide inks in shades of blue.

Next I made a simple journal page using a fun image from the Easter Tokens collage set. I love this quirky, bicycle-riding hen pulling along her cart of eggs.

The background is a monoprint made by applying Oxide inks onto an acrylic block, spritzing with water and stamping it onto white card. The image was fussy cut, inked around the edges and glued in place. I used watercolour pencils to ground the image and added lots of white Posca paint splatters. The sentiment, from Hoppy Easter sentiment set was die cut and attached and it was done!

The second journal page is another Distress Oxide monoprint with added stamping in tone on tone colours and white paint splatters. The delightful image is again from Easter Tokens and the sentiment from the Hoppy Easter sentiment set.
Look at these gorgeous chicks in their Easter bonnets :)

I made a set of ATCs for my 1st April project. If you wish, you can read about these here.

That's all for now!
I hope you'll join our Feathered Friends challenge where the winner will get a $25 shopping spree at the Gecko Galz shop.

The only rule is that you must use at least one Gecko Galz product (this can be one of the freebies or, of course, you can buy at the Etsy store!) Also if you sign up for the Gecko Galz newsletter, you'll be able to claim a free collage sheet each month.

Please pop over to the Gecko Galz blog to see the fabulous designs by the very talented DT.

We also have a friendly Facebook Group where there are 4 monthly challenges, each with a collage sheet prize.
Do come and join us!

I'll be back on the 1st May with more Gecko Galz projects.

* Path of Positivity: Good Day for Reading

Hello

Welcome to the midway reminder for the April Path of Positivity Challenge.

Our challenge is always Anything Goes with an optional theme.

This month's option is to design a project that is inspired by literature.

Honours and Prizes include:

  • $6 worth of images from Scribbles Designs, for a person chosen in a random draw based on all qualifying entrants.
  • A badge for the following honours: Top PickVoter's ChoiceMost InspirationalRandom WinnerDT Delight.
This time I chose to use a beautiful new digital stamp which is part of a set called 'Book Lovers' from Beccy's Place. I love this image and the fact that the books are about botanicals and making essential oils, something that I once had an interested in. Also one of the books is a journal - I'm not good at keeping a written journal, but I have several art journals where my projects reside.
Here is my project:

I coloured the image with Copic markers and used a Lawn Fawn die to cut it out. Keeping the die in place, I used oxide inks to lightly colour the background. I used a book of patterned papers and a torn piece of mulberry paper to layer up the background. The mulberry paper layer was inspired by Bonnie Garby's lovely projects. I finished off with a teal, velvet ribbon and knot bow.

Here's a close-up of the image:

And a little look at the dimension and layers:

That's all for now.
We would love to see your creations!
Just make sure that your entry is positive, inspirational, motivational or encouraging in some way!

* Vera Lane Studio: Happily Ever After

Hello

Today is my Vera Lane Studio DT day and, since it is our wedding anniversary today,  I made a card with a digi set, released a short time ago, called Mr and Mrs.

I used Copic markers to colour the images and made the background with by smooshing white card in Victorian Velvet oxide ink and water. I added some crackle paste through a stencil and some white embossing. I decided to add some grey stamping around the edges. I flicked lots of white paint splatters over the background and adhered the images on top of some torn washi tape. The sentiment was cut into strips and outlined in black.
All stamps stencils and washi from AALL & Create.

That's all for now.

I hope you'll come along and play on Vera Lane. It's such a friendly, fun place to be!

*Path of Positivity: Bright Eyes

Hello

Welcome to the April Path of Positivity Challenge.

Where to start with literature?
I love a good book whether it be fact or fictional and my house is a 'little bit' brimming over with them. For my first DT project I've gone with my love of rabbits in literature, mainly because I came across a lovely stamp that I've had for at least a couple of years and not yet used..
As a child I would read about the naughty (and now politically incorrect) Br'er Rabbit, Peter Rabbit, the Flopsy Bunnies and Benjamin Bunny from the Beatrix Potter stories , the White Rabbit and March Hare in Alice in Wonderland and, in my teens, Hazel and Fiver and their families in Watership Down.

I love this quirky 'Bunny' stamp by Melina Dahl.
I stamped her onto card that was smooshed in Distress Oxide inks. Her collar was also stamped onto smooth white card and coloured with Copics so that it could be decoupaged. I used Posca pen to add white to the ears and eyes.
The background is a monoprint using Oxide inks on an acrylic block spritzed with water and stamped onto card. I added some background stamping and plenty paint splatters. The border and sentiment are part of the stamp set - I stamped the scalloped border onto a gelli print, fussy cut it and added to the edges of the card. I love the big 'Smile' sentiment!

That's all for now.
We would love to see your creations!
Just make sure that your entry is positive, inspirational, motivational or encouraging in some way!
